The Aftermath of the Breakdown
My first post promises to be somber. The aftermath of the fiasco was a lesson that finally hit home but that was not the reason this blog was created.
For years, I had been thinking and planning about setting up my own site. It was only of recent that realisation struck me it will not be materialised due to time constaints and the differences between open and closed systems. By that, I mean creating my very own full-fledged blog system or utilitising an existing open-source one like WordPress. Don’t get the wrong idea – I admire the rich text editor WordPress has and it is the best I had ever laid eyes on. My motivation was simple – it was to instigate myself to propel further in web development. I had my concerns over open systems but the last couple of years had shown me that the web is moving towards the adoption of open-source libraries and systems. This brought me back to one of my philosophies before I stepped foot into the Information Technology (IT) field which was to forget about hubris and to accept humility. Why do I undertake this view so strongly? IT is constantly evolving and a fresh graduate might even know more than I do. To respect the life-long process of learning, it equates to being broad-minded and having an open heart.
Finally, here are my plans for this site:
- To keep a documentation of my web/software development cycle
- To offer various tools that I find lacking in my daily exploration of the web and desktop
- To retain a chronicle of my life blunders and comprehension
- To improve my writing
- To feature the photographs I take in my spare time
- To boost the recency of my portfolio
Living life without a goal was arduous. This is my baby step to actualize a fresh start in my life. To round up my first post, here’s a piece of writing (I call it poser) that I had written back in 2003:
The Commotion in the Backyard
Flowers bountifully stretching on and on upon the bed,
some blooming with all their might,
some withering, unable to fight. The brightly blazed ones soaking in limelight,
the fallen dull ones fluttering in the wind.
I saw the beauty of the lovely petals,
and the beauty of the crestfallen ones. Not that the standing ones are happier than the ones lying down,
for fervent admiration is only bestowed upon worthy candidates!
The mind-created barrier adheres competition among the flowery dwellers in the garden,
the concept – if you can’t outshine or adapt – calls for elimination. The strength of the beautiful ones seeks the attention of many,
the peeled off ones stomped by the feet of many.
Tell me – would you pick the flower that is blooming,
or hold the scattered one in your hands and nurse it to its glory day?
What’s your answer?

I welcome all comments but no flaming please. :)

Very well-written! Are we all merely just flowers and nothing more? Struggle to outstand but fail to understand. I can tell you premit, I will hold the scattered one in my hands. For the tears behind a fallen facade is just as attractive as the ones in the limelight. :)

I like your piece of writing. Giving me an avenue to comment.
The scattered one of course. Naturally, the beautiful ones will fade and wither just like those scattered on the ground. But again, we all have forgotten the main casts, the seeds, Sun, Wind and water. Without them, there wouldn’t be any flowers. Now, it depends how we nourish and groom it from these tiny little seeds.
And if I am given a choice to compare; “scattered one” as soldiers and “flower” as the general. A war cannot be fought or won without a troop. I am the sun, wind and water, so I don’t need a flower to admire; but I need the scattered one. One’s who admire the flower see the surface, one’s who admire the scattered petals see deeper that they are the one who make up the flower.
p.s.: Wind is the cleverest among all. He spread the seeds regardless of what kind of flowers seeds u are. But then again, he can be cruel enough to blow u till u wither when u are a flower under his care.
